The adidas Gazelle Indoor Beam Orange is a variation of the classic adidas Gazelle sneaker, known for its heritage and timeless design. It draws inspiration from indoor sports and training shoes, particularly the original adidas Gazelle, which debuted back in the 60s.
The shoes have a low top silhouette featuring an orange upper made from leather with suede overlays on the lace eyelets and the T-toe. It is worth mentioning that the orange hue on the suede overlays is of a darker shade than the orange painted on the leather, adding some visual interest to the shoes. They also have contrasting white accents on the heel tab and serrated three stripes on the sides.
Our favorite bit on the shoes is the semi-translucent gum outsole, which not only adds to the shoe’s aesthetic but also offers optimum grip on various surfaces, including indoor surfaces.
Origin: The Adidas Gazelle first appeared in 1966, designed as a versatile training shoe crafted with suede, a novel choice at the time. The Indoor variant, born in the early 1980s, took cues from the Handball Spezial, introducing a distinctive translucent gum sole. This iteration quickly became a cultural touchstone.
Construction: The 'Beam Orange' Gazelle Indoor features a low-top silhouette, utilizing a shimmering, canvas-like synthetic upper accented with suede overlays on the T-toe and eyestays. Contrasting leather 3-Stripes and heel tab provide further detail, while the semi-translucent gum rubber outsole, with its textured Trefoil pattern, ensures optimal grip.
Utility: Initially conceived for indoor sports, particularly handball, the Gazelle Indoor has transcended its athletic roots to become a favored lifestyle sneaker. The design is lightweight and close to the ground, offering comfort and style for everyday wear. The Gazelle Indoor seamlessly blends performance-inspired design with casual aesthetics.
Influence: The Gazelle's influence is undeniable. Harry Styles, during his 'Love on Tour' in 2023, showcased the shoe's appeal. Kate Moss, a defining figure of 1990s fashion, frequently sported the Gazelle, solidifying its status. The Gazelle's presence in music is also notable, with Mick Jagger, in the 1970s, embracing the shoe, proving its enduring appeal across generations. The Gazelle has become a symbol of cool.
