Black, grey and sail on the Court Borough Low Premium is Nike doing the plain thing well: a simple court shape, a premium material upgrade, no story required. Not every shoe the company makes needs a myth, and that has been true since Blue Ribbon Sports opened its first retail store in Santa Monica in 1966 and its East Coast outpost in Wellesley, Massachusetts in 1967, selling honest product to people who needed shoes. The court low is the most durable shape in the catalogue because it works on everyone. In this palette the shoe is close to invisible in the best sense, black doing the heavy lifting, grey breaking it up, sail warming the edges.

Construction: Premium here means the upper materials are upgraded over the standard version, which on a simple court shoe is the whole difference: better hand, cleaner panel edges, a Swoosh that sits flat instead of curling. The shape is a low cut, padded collar court silhouette on a rubber outsole with a flat, wide footprint, built for standing and walking rather than sport. Nike's outsole engineering traces directly to Bill Bowerman's waffle iron experiment, which produced the tread used on the 1972 Moon Shoe and the 1974 Waffle Trainer and set the company's habit of treating grip as a design problem.
