Origin: Designed by Tinker Hatfield and released on 11 June 2024 as part of Nike's Air Max 1 line. This release has a suede upper in White/Light Orewood Brown/Black/Aster Pink. The Air Max 1 is where visible Air began. In 1987 Nike cut a window into the midsole and let people see the pressurised gas unit that had been hidden until then, turning cushioning into a design feature and setting off everything the Air Max line became. Aster Pink puts that landmark silhouette in a soft floral pink on a women's build, which is a deliberately gentle reading of a shoe born from an engineering argument. The company that made it started in 1964 as Blue Ribbon Sports, importing Japanese running shoes because Bill Bowerman thought American runners deserved lighter ones. The Air Max 1 was that pursuit made visible. A pale pink colourway just makes it wearable outside the conversation.
